2016 ISI/PSA Conferences & Trade Show Coverage

Most Memorable Conference EVER!
The 2016 ISI/PSA Conferences and Trade Show, held last week in Las Vegas, will certainly go down in ISI history as one of its most memorable!

Scott Hamilton

In addition to the exciting announcement that ISI and the Professional Skaters Association (PSA) will enter into an affiliation agreement, four-time World champion and 1984 Olympic gold medalist Scott Hamilton delivered a fantastic keynote address that captivated the audience. The ISI staff also managed to pull off several special surprises for longtime ISI Executive Director Peter Martell, who retires in August after 19 years at the helm of ISI.

Former ISI board member Jenise Jensen created a wonderful, witty video honoring Peter and it was played at the joint board reception. The tribute included well wishes and words of appreciation from past and present ISI staff and industry members.

Michael Booker & Peter Martell

Former ISI President Michael Booker, who was Peter's mentor at Ice Capades Chalets, made a surprise appearance all the way from Spain to present Peter with the ISI Lifetime Achievement Award at our 57th Annual ISI Awards Dinner & Ceremony. Dressed in black garbage bags and hiding behind an umbrella as he took to the podium, Booker shared several entertaining anecdotes about working with Peter, including one that explained Booker's "trashy" attire.

Randy Gardner, Rohene Ward, Tai Babilonia

Other honorees and guests included: two-time Olympians and five-time U.S. champions Tai Babilonia and Randy Gardner, who were inducted into the ISI Hall of Fame, with former coach John Nicks by their side; Bob Ullrich, who received the Frank J. Zamboni Award; and award-winning choreographer Rohene Ward, who was presented with the ISI President's Award. ISI charter members Peter Dunfield, J. Richard Gaw and Fritz Dietl were also honored posthumously with ISI Legacy Awards. Katy Hayden's granddaughter and dear friend were also on hand to accept the ISI Hall of Fame Award on behalf of Katy, who passed away in February. See more photos

Dynamic sessions, a sold-out trade show, successful ISIA Education Foundation fundraisers and numerous social activities rounded out this year's annual ice arena conference in the "Entertainment Capital of the World." What's more, approximately 90 attendees received IAIM certifications. Graduates names will appear in the fall issue of EDGE magazine, along with additional event coverage.

Special thanks to this year's sponsors: Accent Refrigeration Systems, American Insurance Agency, Arid-Ice Controlled Dehumidification, Becker Arena Products, Cimco, Disney On Ice, FMC Ice Sports, IceRink Events, K&K Insurance, Riedell Skates & Eclipse Blades, and Tokio Marine HCC.

See you in Minneapolis for the 2017 ISI/MIAMA Conference & Trade Show!
