Dear ISI:

"I hope ISI continues to offer the services it has all these years. ISI skaters in this generation have the ability to prepare and compete in so many different routines, including freestyle, footwork, spotlight, compulsory, rhythmic skating, duet, trios, synchro, and team production. There is something for every competitor, whether he or she skates once a week or five days a week.

"ISI groomed me to be a well-rounded competitor and performer by offering freestyle, footwork, spotlight, team compulsory, and precision/synchro events. Those events helped keep training fun and developed all areas of my skating. Growing up, I was extremely shy and thanks to ISI, figure skating helped me step out of my comfort zone. It helped me develop my self-esteem and self-confidence. ISI and our arena promoted the development of strong friendships and teamwork through precision/synchro events. The testing skill progression in the freestyle levels prepared me to be successful at ISI competitions. ISI helped me learn and master intricate steps required for my footwork routines, which prepared me to teach and lead the Disney on Ice cast members in our weekly edge class. ISI helped me develop characters for spotlight events that would eventually help me land a job with Disney on Ice, and bring characters to life performing for national and international audiences around the globe.

"I don't know what my program in Hastings, Minn., would be like if we didn't have ISI. The team production and ensemble events ISI offers are what we promote in our program and they have grown at a positive rate over five years. In less than five years, our theater team production program has grown from one team of eight skaters competing, to four teams with 41 skaters competing in 2016. What I like about Team Production is that it helps build friendships, teamwork, skills, performance development, self-esteem, and confidence. We create specific routines for each skill level. We have skaters that skate once a week and others that skate five days a week. We have skaters that may not be available to take private lessons to build their competitive career, but they can still participate in a team event, and there are no requirements for team production, which is great for our facility.

"If ISI programs were no longer offered, I don't know how we would compete or where we would compete with this type of group. I am grateful for ISI as it creates opportunities for kids, jobs for coaches and more dollars brought into our arena to keep its doors open. It's a win-win in our facility."
